How to Apply for Tibet Travel Permit Successfully? The Application Steps and Tips

As what we all know, international tourists need apply for Tibet Travel Permit to travel to Tibet. But how do international tourists apply for their Tibet Travel Permit overseas at home.

By following the below four simple steps, you will find it is not as difficult as you thought to get your Tibet Travel Permit.

Step 1 Consult online travel agency, confirm your Tibet tour and book it.
Step 2 Prepare valid passport and China tourist visa.
Step 3 Send the copies of valid documents to us.
Step 4 Get your Tibet Travel Permit before traveling to Tibet.

The Four Steps of Applying for Tibet Travel Permit Overseas at your Home

Step 1: Consult online travel agency, confirm your Tibet tour and book it

When you plan to go to Tibet for a lifetime unforgettable trip, you will search in the internet and find much Tibet travel guides offered by local online travel agency. You can send your questions to Tibettourism and consult your trip advisor whether you need a Tibet Travel Permit and what you need prepare in advance.

Tibet Travel Permit is an entry permit for international tourists (foreign citizens, overseas Chinese with no China ID card and Taiwan citizens) to travel to Tibet. The permit can only be applied via the local Tibet tour operator from Tibet Tourism Bureau. You need discuss with our trip advisor about your interests and needs, design an ideal Tibet tour itinerary after several conversations,  finally book it and sign a tour contract. Our trip advisor will ask you to offer the necessary documents based on your travel date.

Step 2: Prepare valid passport and China tourist visa

Your passport and China visa are required when applying your Tibet Travel Permit. If you do not have them, you need prepare in advance.

China visa is applied by yourself from China Embassy or Visa Centre in your country. You will need prepare your profile and fill in the application form. If they ask you to offer an invitation letter from your travel agency, we can also help you apply for this kind of invitation letter from TTB. Usually, a China tourist visa is required. But if you have other type of China visa, such as X visa, Q2 visa, Z visa, F visa or M visa, it is also OK. And you need offer an invitation letter or certificate.

Step 3: Send the copies of valid documents to us

After you have your passport and China visa, please scan them and send the copies to us via email. Of course, you can take pictures of them and send the clear and complete copies to us.

Based on your travel date, we prepare your permit application files, incl. tour contract, the copies of passport and China visa, tour guide and car’s registration information to apply for your Tibet Travel Permit from TTB.

Step 4: Get your Tibet Travel Permit before traveling to Tibet

Around one week before your travel date, we will receive your original Tibet Travel Permit papers from TTB. We will deliver your original permit to your hotel in mainland China city by Shunfeng Express if you take a train to Lhasa from Lanzhou, Xian or Chongqing, or take a flight to Lhasa from any city. We also send the scanned Tibet Permit copies to you if you take a train to Lhasa from except above cities or take a flight to Lhasa from Kathmandu.

If the time is very tight, we maybe deliver your permit at transfer airport by tour guide with extra fee. So, in order to get your Tibet Permit before your board the Qinghai-Tibet train or flight to Lhasa, we highly recommend you to offer your valid documents to us at least 15 days in advance.  

Tibet Permit Application Tips to Make You Apply for it Successfully

1. Send the scanned copies of your passport and China visa to us at least 15 days or 8 working days before your departure to Tibet if you travel to Tibet by train from Xining, Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai. Because we can only give your the scanned permit copies to you by email. The earlier, the better.

2. Send the scanned copies of your valid documents to us 15-20 working days before departure. Because we have to deliver the original permit to you and it will be check when you. The express delivery departing from Lhasa need 3-4 days.

3. Tell all your information to your trip advisor and do not hide your occupation. Confirm and book your Tibet tour with us at least 20 days in advance.

4. Confirm your Tibet entry city and do not change it during permit application period. Because you can only enter into Tibet from the confirmed city on your Tibet Travel Permit. If you change it, we need take more time to apply for another permit for you.
