The Ali Grid Connection Project
The Ali Grid Connection Project is another super high altitude and extremely difficult power transmission and transformation project built by State Grid Corporation of China, which breaks through the forbidden zone of life and challenges the survival limit after the three "power heaven paths" of Qinghai-Tibet Grid Connection Project, Sichuan-Tibet Grid Connection Project and Central Tibet Grid Connection Project.
It is understood that during the whole construction peak period of Ali Grid Connection Project, more than 100 units and more than 30,000 people participated in the construction of the whole line.
The commissioning of the Ali Grid Connection Project marks that the last prefecture level administrative region in China's land area has been officially connected to the national grid. Hence, Tibet has entered a new era of unified power grid with the main power grid covering 7 cities and 74 counties (districts) in the whole region. This has written a new chapter in the development of Tibet's electric power.

The total investment of the project is 7.4 billion yuan, and the construction started in September 2019. The project starts from 220kV Duolin substation in Sangzhuzi District of Shigatse city and ends at 220kV Baer substation in Gaer County of Ali Region, and crosses 10 districts and counties in 2 cities of Tibet. The completion and operation of the Ali Grid Connection Project will end the history of the isolated operation of the Ali power grid, fundamentally solve the problem of long-term power shortage in Ali area, let the remaining seven counties in Tibet (including Zhongba, Saga, Jilong, Nyalam, Pulan, Gaize and Coqin ) use large grid power, solve and improve the safe and reliable power consumption of 380000 farmers and herdsmen in 16 counties along the project, promote the development of clean energy in Tibet, and become another bright line, security line, solidarity line and happiness line for the benefit of the people of all ethnic groups in Tibet. It has great significance to promote Tibet's development, long-term peace and stability, and maintain national unity. It will also realize the connectivity of electric circuits, people's hearts and prosperity.
The Ali Grid Connection Project is a 500 kV power transmission and transformation project with the highest altitude, the longest transportation distance and the most challenging in the world. Engineering construction environment is extremely bad, road traffic is extremely difficult, logistics support is extremely difficult, and environmental protection requirements are extremely strict.
