Facilities of Qinghai-Tibet Trains

Oxygen Supply

On the Tibet train, there are two kinds of oxygen supply devices. One is the dispersion type oxygen supply system which can make the oxygen content of each car reach 23.5% by mixing the air in the air conditioning system. Usually, the train conductor will turn on the oxygen supply system when arriving at Golmud (2,829m) to distribute the disposable tube to each passenger. Another system is the distribution type oxygen supply system which can let passengers to inhale oxygen from oxygen outlet through the oxygen pipe at time to avoid altitude sickness.

Dining Car

All the trains to Tibet are equipped with a dining car which provides tables and seats and offers 3 meals a day to passengers. You need ask the train attendant to make sure where the dining car is. Usually it is located at the middle car of a train.

Breakfast (07:30-08:30): baozi (steamed stuffed bun), mantou (steamed bun), eggs, porridge, pickles, bread, and milk

Lunch (11:30 to 14:00) and Dinner (17:30 to 19:30): there are 55 cold dishes, 8 Tibetan dishes, 32 ordinary dishes, and 8 soup dishes, and several kinds of noodle.

At non-meantime, you can also buy snacks, fruits and beverages from Train saleswoman. All food on the train maybe twice as expensive as that in other places. So we advise you to buy some snacks and drinks from supermarket before you board the train to Lhasa.

Toilet and Bathroom

There are two toilets and bathrooms at both ends of each car. In soft sleeper car, at one end is the Western-style toilet (seat type) and at another end is Chinese-style toilet (squat type). But in hard sleeper car, both toilets are Chinese-style toilet. Inside the toilet, there are water basin, dustbin, and two kinds of button: green for flushing water and red for emergency.

Air-conditioning

All Tibet trains are equipped with air conditioning which keep the temperature at a comfortable so passengers on the train will not get a cold when the trains run through the snow mountainous areas at high elevation.

Medical Service

On the train, when you fill not comfortable, please do not hesitate to ask the train attendant or push for emergency button for medical service help. There are professional doctors and trained nurses are available although it is limited first aid on the trains to Tibet.
