FAQs on Kailash Tour from Chengdu

  • 1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a direct flight from Chengdu to Ngari?

Compared to flying from Chengdu to Lhasa first, and then traveling overland or by flight to Ngari, a direct flight saves a significant amount of time and greatly shortens the overall journey. It also avoids a long and arduous journey from Lhasa to Mount Kailash.

However, Chengdu has a relatively low altitude. Taking a direct flight to Ngari involves a rapid change in altitude, which may not give the body enough time to acclimatize, increasing the risk of altitude sickness.

  • 2. How to choose a route from Chengdu to Mount Kailash?

If you have limited vacation time and want to focus on the kora around the mountain, you can choose a direct flight from Chengdu to Ngari. If you plan a longer trip with a slower pace while visiting popular attractions like Lhasa, Yamdrok Lake, and Mount Everest, you can choose to travel from Chengdu to Lhasa first, and then travel overland from Lhasa to Mount Kailash. If you have any other specific requirements, we can also provide customized tour services.

  • 3. Can I fly directly from Chengdu to Ngari for my first Mount Kailash tour?

Yes, but it's not recommended. If you have no prior experience traveling to high altitudes, we do not suggest choosing this route. The altitude change from Chengdu to Ngari is significant, and without adequate preparation, you are prone to altitude sickness. This may affect your trip and result in an unpleasant travel experience.

  • 4. What is included in the package of a Kailash tour from Chengdu?

The Chengdu to Kailash tour package typically includes accommodation, all transportation within Tibet, necessary permits, guide and driver service, and part of the breakfast. Flights from Chengdu to Lhasa or Ngari are not included, but we can provide flight booking services.

  • 5. Can I take a train from Chengdu to Mount Kailash?

Currently, there are no direct trains from Chengdu to Mount Kailash. You can first take a train from Chengdu to Lhasa, and then travel from Lhasa to Mount Kailash by overland or flight. Taking the train into Tibet is also a good option; you can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and acclimatize to the increasing altitude. We can also provide train ticket booking services if needed.

  • 6. What health precautions should I take during the Kailash Kora?

The Mount Kailash Kora is a high-altitude trek, which makes altitude sickness relatively common, such as headaches, fatigue, insomnia, or shortness of breath. It is recommended that you stay well-hydrated, eat a light diet, avoid strenuous activity, and carry some commonly used medications. Individuals with heart disease, high blood pressure, or respiratory conditions are advised to consult a doctor before participating in this tour.
