FAQs on 17 Days Kailash Tour
-
1. What are the main features of this 17-day itinerary?
This is a panoramic route covering the essence of western Tibet, designed at a reasonable pace to adapt to the high-altitude environment. It connects multiple themes, including Lhasa's culture, Mount Everest, Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar Yatra, the Zanda Earth Forest, and the civilization of the Guge Kingdom. The itinerary combines cultural depth, natural landscapes, and religious experiences, making it one of the most comprehensive, comfortable, and balanced Mount Kailash tour routes currently available.
-
2. Why does this route require 17 days? Is it too long?
17 days isn't long; it's the most comfortable and safest duration for this route. The itinerary includes Lhasa, Everest, Mount Kailash, and Lake Mansarovar, and also delves into the Zanda Earth Forest and the Guge Kingdom. The route covers a large area with significant altitude changes, requiring sufficient time for the body to acclimatize. A 17-day schedule also avoids continuous long-distance travel and allows ample time to visit each key site. Compressing it to a shorter period would drastically diminish the experience and significantly increase the risk of altitude sickness.
-
3. Is a 17-day itinerary suitable for first-time visitors to Tibet?
Yes, but thorough preparation is essential. This 17-day route has a relatively stable pace. The first half involves gradual acclimatization in lower altitude areas like Lhasa and Shigatse, making it quite friendly to first-time visitors to Tibet. However, due to the length of the route, the latter half enters high-altitude areas such as Mount Kailash and Zanda. If you have difficulty adapting to long journeys and high altitudes, you might find it challenging. Therefore, as long as you are in good health and can tolerate high altitude conditions, this route is ideal for your first in-depth trip to Tibet.

4. What’s the best time to join this 17-day Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?
Since the route includes Kailash Yatra, the best time to choose this route is from May to October. During this period, the climate in the Ngari region is mild and stable, making it the ideal time for trekking and pilgrimage. May and June offer moderate temperatures, fresh air, and excellent visibility. July and August feature lush vegetation and high oxygen levels. While rain is possible, it usually occurs at night and has little impact on the journey. September and October offer dry, sunny weather with clear blue skies, perfect for enjoying autumn scenery and photography.
-
5. What are the road conditions like during the whole journey?
The road from Lhasa to Mount Kailash is mostly flat and in good condition. The one-way trip is about 1200km, with beautiful scenery along the way. It passes through National Highways G318 and G219, both of which are in excellent condition, ensuring a comfortable journey.
The sections from Saga to Darchen and from Darchen to Zanda are slightly bumpy, but there's no need to worry. Our experienced Tibetan drivers are very familiar with these routes and will ensure your safety and comfort to the greatest extent possible.
-
6. What are the accommodation options like during the Mount Kailash Kora?
Due to the high altitude and harsh natural environment, accommodation along the Mount Kailash Kora route is very limited and basic. During your 3-day Mount Kailash trek, you will stay one night at a guesthouse opposite Dirapuk Monastery, where you can enjoy stunning views of the north face of Mount Kailash up close; the second night will be spent at a guesthouse near Zutulpuk Monastery.
The guesthouses are equipped with a bed, basic bedding, and an electric blanket. Usually, 2 to 4 travelers share a room. Due to the lack of water at high altitudes, there are no private bathrooms or toilets in the guesthouses.
